Dear empty bed

This weekend something big happened. It wasn't just the oil that kept spurting out into the ocean or even the defused car bomb in Times Square or something Gordon Brown said whe he thought the nation wasn't listening.

The big news for me this weekend was Niki moving into the bedroom she now shares with Joel and Vanja.
No more baby in the room. For the past 8,5 years, there has almost always been a baby in the bedroom.
In this picture, Niki just asked "how does it feel"?
Empty. Weird. But also, somehow good.

  3. Oh great, if Nikis moving out from your bedroom now it means that I can wait almost two more years. I don't want Eva to move to another room, I like hearing her snoring. But I do miss reading in bed without the flashlight app in my Iphone.

  4. the bathroom's an ideal bedroom for a baby--totally dark and tiled. he's been in there since the day we moved in.

  5. Is the practice of co-sleeping more common in Sweden? Or did Niki sleep in a crib and just get let in the bed to cuddle with parents in the morning? Just curious. It isn't practiced so much here and often discouraged, but for the wrong reasons I think. Breastfeeding rates in the US might be higher if co-sleeping were encouraged more.

  6. um, how did I miss you having a baby? How old is Niki? Is this why you haven't been running? I miss run with e!

  8. no doris this is my 2-year old. she's been sleeping in a crib next to our bed. but now she's in a different room. For us this has worked as has breastfeeding, but I say it's up to every family. In Sweden the pressure to breastfeed is insane.

  11. I felt the same way when my eldest boarded a plane that would eventually take him to Cairo, Egypt for 5 months. It felt empty, but also somehow good.

Your children are adorable. What a cool family!
