I usually ask for them back, after a good while. But if I REALLY know the book would fit them and they will love it, I will just give it to them and buy another.

I usually just feel bad about it. I bought another copy of a book I lent in college (early 1980s)about 5 years ago. Now thinking about getting another copy of Jared Diamond's Collapse, a book I loved and lent a few years ago.
