Dear Microsoft

This is the most horrible thing I have ever ever ever seen. I feel queasy. It's more uncomfortable to watch than even The Office. Or Curb your Enthusiasm. I understand you're going for a more personal touch here, but the whole thing feels so staged, so rehearsed, so awful.

I want to die. I want to curl up and cry. This is possibly the worst thing I have ever seen. Great casting also! A blond girl, a black guy, a tech dude and Nana from that Brooke Shields show.

Sorry, can't let this go. Could it be a joke? Is it ironic?

old lady is mother. younger woman is her daughter. younger man is her son who still, unfortunately, lives at home. black man is dating daughter. she's secretly disappointed in her daughter for dating him but wants to put a good, maybe liberal face forward. nonetheless, disappointment flits across her face at inopportune times. party will end in hot, drunken mess. everyone will be yelling and saying things they will regret forever after. and then they will upload the pictures and we will have a good laugh.

Here's a really funny spoof on that video: http://www.cabel.name/2009/09/windows-7-party.html

I only made it 45 seconds in.

There is a awful "Jr. High Hygiene Film" air about it. I can see something like this passing for a government emergency preparedness movie, but MICROSOFT??

If they were aiming for viral marketing here, they picked the wrong virus. This one makes me twitchy. And because I have been taught to associate product quality and desirability with the quality of the advertising I think this new product will smell like cheese and require cue cards and harsh lighting to understand.

This is social media / outreach gone oh so wrong. So wrong. It's like a 65 year old man is sitting high up in his agency's Microsoft throne and says "I've got it! Let's get people to throw parties for our new software! We'll guide them with that whole YouPipe video thingy!"

Ugggg!! People don't use Windows because they love it, they use it because they have to. No one will throw a party for something they have to use.

Terrible. But so funny how they're trying to reach all segments with only four people.

Wtf.

Fail.

I feel sooo sorry for the actors hired for this video. They're putting on a game face, but they probably heaved when they first read the script. Pretty hard to come up with a "motivation" for going ape over an operating system...

Found your blog through 101 cookbooks and have enjoyed visiting you and your family in Sweden.

you know, i just can't relate to this because the latino community has been sourly looked over. i much prefer the infomercials of señor george foreman, the slap chop, or the microcrisp. not only can they provide the essentials to a kick-ass party but they're the purveyors of fat-free fun!!
emi, if you liked the akwardness of the office or curb your enthusiasm... then something tells me you'll dig, TRUTH IN ADVERTISING. youtube it for a giggle, fun!!
